History and Development of Human Rights in India

Human rights are the indispensable rights that every human is entitled to. In India, human rights are secured because of the constitution of India. But still the violation of it is prevalent. But the prevalence of the violation has subsided in contemporary times to a great extent as compared to ancient, medieval and modern times. The reason of this can be understood through the study of history and development of human rights in India. Through this article, the history of human rights is traced by analysing the condition of human rights in different periods of time, i.e, starting from early Vedic period to post independence era. By analysing it, the development of the concept of human rights can be traced in turn that would help to decipher the reason for the violation of it.

This article entails the meaning of human rights, concept of human rights in different eras, the current laws pertaining to human rights, the lacunae in the current set of laws, comparison of laws of human rights of India with the human rights laws of USA in order to understand the significance of human rights laws of India, landmark judgements which shaped the development of human rights in India. The study of all these aspects is important because to make avail human rights to everyone, the development of it needs to be understood.
