Indian Judiciary is overburdened with pending litigation. Delay in administration of justice and high cost of litigation are its perils. These factors have resulted in loss of faith of people in the judicial system. Thus, with the development of Alternate Dispute Resolution, the emphasis has been shifted from traditional methods of dispute resolution through litigation to ADR. The concept of online dispute resolution was born with the development of e-commerce. ODR is a branch of ADR which resolves the dispute between parties without interference of the court. It includes arbitration, mediation and negotiation. With the emergence of globalisation the concept of online dispute resolution is blooming day by day. The purpose of this article is to present some of the important facets of online dispute resolution, definition of the term, the types of resolution available, and the most recent legal regulations in this area.
