Gender Inequality and harassment at workplaces is a myth followed in the world. This has also been a practice since ages where people mainly women are discriminated in various ways from that of men though both of them perform the same piece of work. Women have witnessed discrimination on various ways and the discrimination at work is also one among them. The inequality could be lower- paying position because of sex, often not treated fairly, denied promotion and also it is observed that employees or workers especially women are harassed physically and mentally. Insulting them or addressing them with derogatory names or slurs, sexual harassment and so on. Though the world has changed there are such tiny things and practices that never changes. This paper generally talks about the discrimination and harassment in the rural and urban population. This paper also includes the opinions and views of people through questionnaire. The main objective is to understand the past and current situation of gender discrimination and harassment at workplaces. Over the years, the world has experienced these issues and is trying to overcome them.     Gender discrimination is prohibited in the country. Title Vll of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 makes it illegal to discriminate against someone on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin or sex. This law also protects employees with a claim regarding discrimination in the workplaces. The law such as Equal Pay Act of 1963 also prohibits the practice of paying less to women than their male coworkers. This law also protects and promotes gender equality in the workplace and protects people from sexual harassment and also ensures suitable working environment. The city areas are more advanced than the rural areas. Hence in this paper an effort is made to discuss the gender discrimination and harassment rate and also the laws and legal aspects that apply against gender harassment and discrimination at workplaces. This paper includes introduction of the concept, reasons and examples of the discrimination and harassment at workplace. The origin of these practices is unknown but still estimation is made to give an anticipated idea of the background of the practice. This paper also includes the authors research done through the help of questionnaire of the rural areas of Belthangady, Laila and Mangaluru, place in Karnataka which talks about the discrimination on women workers in various ways. This paper contains the views, suggestions and conclusion of the author.
