“Acid is used because men don’t want to kill, they want to disfigure.”
Acid attacks are a vicious form of aggression against women.  Acid attack which is also known acid violence or vitriol age has emerged as a brutal act that shows the gravity of the ongoing atrocities and human rights violations.  In India, like in most countries women are treated as second class citizens and never given the opportunity to assert themselves by refusing the so-called love proposals and advances.  Victims face lifetime physical, social, psychological and economic consequences. In India, the Constitution makers while drafting the Constitution were sensitive to the problems faced by women and made specific provisions relating to them.  In various Articles, not only mandates equality of the sexes but also authorizes benign discrimination in favour of women and children to make up for the backwardness which has been their age-old destiny.Acid Violence is Gender Based Violence.  Acid Attacks perpetuate gender inequality and discrimination.  The Criminal Amendment Act made many changes and put forth the punishments aggressive.   The Judiciary effect of acid violence is long strand and gives the compatible punishments.  The eye opener arises at the case of Laxmi vs Union of India, where the Supreme Court gives the guidelines.
